This collaboration promises an intimate look into this important musical movement. Queen Bandmates Share Private Conversations

In a recent interview with What To Watch, Lambert teased some exciting details about his upcoming documentary, Out Loud and Proud. The film digs into the colorful history of British LGBTQ+ musicians, but a particularly intriguing aspect focuses on Freddie Mercury, Queen’s legendary frontman.

According to Lambert, viewers will get a rare glimpse into Mercury’s life through the eyes of his bandmates. “Sitting down with Brian May and Roger Taylor was really special,” he shared.

“We’ve had so many of these conversations in private, but to be able to share them with the public was really cool.” This unprecedented access promises to shed light on Mercury’s sexuality, both for him personally and for the band as a whole.

Diverse Voices Join Adam to Celebrate LGBTQ+ Music

The airdate for Lambert’s documentary is set on June 19th via ITV, coinciding perfectly with Pride Month 2024. Joining Lambert in this exploration of LGBTQ+ musicians in Britain will be a diverse group of artists.

Alongside his bandmates, Brian May and Roger Taylor, others who will offer their insights include Andy Bell of Erasure and Skin from Skunk Anansie. Skin holds the distinction of being the first Black British artist to headline Glastonbury. Pop singer MNEK and actress Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, the first trans woman to win a Golden Globe for her role in Pose, will also lend their voices to the documentary.

Lambert himself expressed his excitement about collaborating with these artists. “It was great to talk to people like Andy Bell and Skin,” he shared. “They represent two different decades where LGBTQ+ artists were still fighting for visibility. Their stories offer a powerful perspective on the progress we’ve made.”

A Look Back at Pioneering Queer Musicians

In the interview, Lambert also shed light on the inspiration behind Out Loud and Proud. He describes it as a “comprehensive look at the history of queer musicians”. For Adam, British artists like Elton John, Freddie Mercury, David Bowie, and Boy George were instrumental figures.

“If I think about iconic queer musicians the first ones that come to mind are almost all UK artists. For me, realising my dream of wanting to be an artist on stage and a singer outside of musical theatre, those were my touchstones and so that felt like a really exciting place to dig into,” the singer shared.

This focus on UK music legends makes perfect sense given Lambert’s current role as Queen’s frontman. By exploring the contributions of these artists, viewers can expect a deeper understanding of both Lambert’s musical journey and the enduring impact of LGBTQ+ voices in British music history. Look out for Out Loud and Proud premiering on ITV1 and ITVX this coming Wednesday.
