Did you know that Jason Momoa doesn’t just act in big movies; he’s also a big fan of heavy metal music? That’s right! The guy you’ve seen in “Game of Thrones” and “Aquaman” loves to jam to some loud and fast tunes. And now, he’s taking his love for rock onto the stage with his very own band called Öof Tatatá.
Jason Momoa Rocks Out with Öof Tatatá
So, what’s this new band all about? Jason Momoa has joined forces with his buddies Kenny Dale and Mike Hayes to create Öof Tatatá. And guess what? They are having a blast playing covers of songs by legendary artists like Jimi Hendrix, Metallica, and Black Sabbath. These are big shoes to fill, but Momoa and his crew are up for the challenge!
The band’s very first show happened at a special party for a new movie called “Minecraft.” Jason Momoa is starring in it alongside another famous actor, Jack Black. Picture it: After a long time of working on the movie, there’s a big party to celebrate, and Öof Tatatá steps onto the stage to fill the room with rock ‘n’ roll.
Since then, Öof Tatatá has played shows in sunny California. One was at a cool spot called The Bungalow in Santa Monica, and another at the Sunset Room in Hollywood. At their Santa Monica show, someone really special joined them on stage. It was D. B. Weiss, who helped make “Game of Thrones”! What a surprise that must have been for everyone there.
When Jason Momoa and his band play, the songs they pick are from all kinds of famous groups. Imagine hearing music by Led Zeppelin, songs sung by Stevie Nicks, wild tracks by The Stooges, and tunes by the guitar master Jimi Hendrix. Right now, the band hasn’t talked about making their own music, but they’re sure having fun with these classics!
A Metalhead at Heart
Now, let’s talk about just how much Jason loves metal music. He once shared in an interview with Metal Hammer magazine that when he’s acting out his characters, he thinks about metal songs. He said that for Aquaman, he was inspired by the band Tool and their song ‘Ticks And Leeches.’ Jason Momoa explained:
“Aquaman’s pretty metal. I know no one thinks that, but Aquaman’s metal. I kind of build my characters off of metal songs. Conan (The Barbarian) was really heavy Pantera, I’d say Aquaman was probably mostly built out of Tool and [Metallica’s] ‘Kill ‘Em All.’ ‘Ticks And Leeches,’ if I want to get specific. There’s a lot of Sabbath in there too.”
That’s really cool, isn’t it? It’s not every day you hear about a superhero being inspired by rock music. But that’s how Jason does it, and it definitely works for him. So, next time you watch him on screen, just think about how some powerful guitar riffs and drum beats might be behind that performance.
Now, for those fans who want to see Jason Momoa rock out with his band, sometimes there are videos posted online from their shows. But remember, even if he’s singing and playing on stage, he’s still the same cool actor we all know from his movies and TV shows.
