Roger Daltrey Really Wants A Well-Made Keith Moon Movie

  • by

Roger Daltrey, the famous singer from the band The Who, really wants to create a movie about Keith Moon, the band’s legendary drummer. Moon was a key part of the band until he passed away 46 years ago. Despite the years, Daltrey hasn’t given up on his dream to share Moon’s story through a film.

Searching for the Perfect Team for Keith Moon’s Film

Daltrey is currently touring North America but that hasn’t stopped him from focusing on the movie project about Keith Moon. He shared, “We have a script. We’re checking out directors, trying to get the best available director, ’cause all the good ones are always working. I’ve got to find good people with the time to make this film. I want to get that made when I’m still alive to promote it, so that’s taking up quite a lot of my time.”

Finding the right star for the movie has been challenging. A few years back, Mike Myers, known for “Austin Powers” and “Wayne’s World,” was linked to the movie. However, Daltrey points out that without a director, they can’t move forward with finalizing who will play Moon. The director’s vision is crucial to shaping the final script and the film’s direction. “So (the director) is what we’re waiting for, and we’ll move forward from there,” says Daltrey.

Daltrey’s efforts to create this film aren’t just to make another music biopic; it’s about telling a true, engaging story. Watching other music biopics has shown him what he doesn’t want. He says, “I’m making a film,” hinting that he aims for something more profound and genuine than the usual story.

Balancing Film Dreams with Music Tunes

While working on the movie project, Daltrey hasn’t taken a break from music. His solo tour is packed with songs by The Who, some deep tracks, and interesting covers of songs by Pete Townshend and Creedence Clearwater Revival. He’s also answering questions from fans at his shows.

The future of The Who, the band both Daltrey and Townshend have been part of for so long, seems uncertain. Daltrey mentions, “As far as I’m concerned, do we need another Who tour?” He indicates he’s open to touring if Townshend is truly into it. Their collaboration is special, but it requires both of them to be fully committed and passionate about it.
