Here’s Why Alex Van Halen Now Lives In Seclusion

  • by

Van Halen’s thunderous drums and dazzling guitar work were once a constant presence in the rock landscape. But since the tragic passing of Eddie Van Halen in 2020, fans have noticed a different kind of silence – the absence of drummer Alex Van Halen from the public eye.

Former bandmate Sammy Hagar recently shed some light on this seclusion, revealing a deep grief that continues to cast a long shadow. The Red Rocker revealed that Alex “doesn’t want to communicate”.

Hagar’s comments paint a picture of a man profoundly affected by loss. He describes Alex as unwilling to reconnect, suggesting a deep emotional wound that may take time to heal.

Sammy Hagar on Van Halen Reunion and Hope for Reconciliation

Despite repeated attempts to connect, Sammy Hagar revealed that Alex Van Halen hasn’t been receptive to communication. Hagar ponders whether this signifies a complete disinterest in friendship or simply a lack of desire to talk at the moment.

However, he remains optimistic about their future, believing there’s time to mend things. Looking beyond a reunion with Alex, Hagar ponders the possibility of collaborating with former frontman David Lee Roth. While acknowledging the potential coolness of such a pairing, he emphasizes the band’s overall legacy.

“You know what I mean with that… It was one of the greatest bands of all time and one of the greatest times in my life musically. So, I think we should start sharing with the people and having fun as well,” Hagar said.

“I’m Sure He’s Still In Pain From the Whole Thing”

While acknowledging Alex’s grief over Eddie’s passing, Hagar emphasizes his understanding. Despite the current disconnect, Hagar remains hopeful for reconciliation.

“You know, [Michael Anthony] has reached out, and I reached out many times. I don’t know, I’m sure he’s still in pain from the whole thing, but I’m not dogging him,” the rock singer shared. Hagar also believes time is on their side, expressing his own longevity with a touch of humor.

“I don’t know why but, we still got the rest of our lives to work this out. I’m going to live to be a hundred, so I got away. We have got a lot of time to work this out,” he said.

Carrie Underwood Takes on Ronstadt Classics

Van Halen’s story is one of musical innovation and captivating performances. Formed by Alex and Eddie in 1972, the band took the rock world by storm. Sammy joined in 1985, leading the band through a successful era. Unfortunately, internal conflicts led to his departure in 1996.

He returned for a brief stint from 2003 to 2005, but the band’s future was forever altered by Eddie Van Halen’s passing in 2020 after a battle with cancer. Following this devastating loss, the band members decided to disband.

Despite the closure, Hagar revealed a desire to continue honoring Eddie’s legacy. He expressed interest in a new project with Alex, a poignant idea that highlights the enduring bond between music and loss.
