David Gilmour recently revealed which Pink Floyd songs he’s leaving behind for good. In a conversation with Mojo magazine, the legendary guitarist mentioned a few tracks that won’t be making it to his live setlists anymore.
As Gilmour prepares for his upcoming tour to promote his solo album Luck and Strange, fans can expect a mix of both solo and Pink Floyd material. However, not every classic is returning.
While the Pink Floyd frontman is known for his powerful live performances, he’s ready to move on from some of the band’s most popular songs.
Gilmour Moves Away From Some Classics
“There are songs from the past that I no longer feel comfortable singing,” Gilmour admitted. He mentioned Run Like Hell from The Wall as a track he still appreciates musically but finds its lyrics unsettling. “I now find that all rather… a bit terrifying and violent,” he explained.
The frontman is also done with some of Pink Floyd’s biggest hits. “‘Another Brick In The Wall’ is another one I shan’t be doing,” Gilmour said. Despite its popularity, it no longer fits with his live performances.
He even mentioned that Money, one of the band’s signature songs, is off his setlist. Gilmour reflected on performing it post-Roger Waters but said, “I won’t be doing that.”
Gilmour’s Continued Connection to Classic Hits
Gilmour remains loyal to certain hits that resonate deeply with him. “I’m going to be sticking with the ones that are essentially my music, and I feel some ownership of,” he stated. Songs like Comfortably Numb, Wish You Were Here, and Shine On You Crazy Diamond will stay in his repertoire.
On September 5th, he released Luck and Strange, marking his first album in nearly a decade. This new project adds a fresh dimension to his live performances while honoring his past work.
Gilmour’s tour kicks off on September 27th at Circo Massimo in Rome. He’ll return to the UK for six shows at the Royal Albert Hall in October. The tour will conclude with five performances at Madison Square Garden in New York.
