Legendary Instruments in Gilmour’s Collection
Some of Gilmour’s guitars have taken on near-mythical status. The all-black 1969 Fender Stratocaster, known as the “Black Strat,” was his go-to guitar for Pink Floyd recordings from 1973 through the mid-80s, leaving an indelible mark on rock history.
Another standout is his striking red Stratocaster, which served as his primary guitar from 1988 to 2005. There’s also a 1954 white Stratocaster with a gold finish and serial number 0001, a rare gift from Leo Fender himself, adding to its legendary status.
The collection also includes two other iconic Stratocasters: a classic 1954 model and a distinctive blue 1957 model believed to have been custom-made for Homer Haynes of the country duo Homer and Jethro. Each guitar tells a story of craftsmanship and music history.

Iconic Guitars with Unforgettable Stories
Among Gilmour’s collection is a 1955 gold Gibson Les Paul, famous for its role in the iconic solo on “Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2.” This guitar is a piece of rock history, capturing one of Gilmour’s most memorable performances.
Adding to the acoustic side, there’s a 1971 12-string Martin D12-28, featured on “Wish You Were Here,” and a 1969 Martin D-35. These guitars rounded out the collection, highlighting the diversity and depth of Gilmour’s instruments.
Christie’s estimated that these guitars would fetch between $5,000 and $150,000 each. True to his generous spirit, Gilmour pledged to donate all proceeds from the auction to charity, making this collection not just legendary but also meaningful.
