After losing his beloved Beano Burst, Eric Clapton searched for a replacement. He experimented with other Les Pauls, even one from Andy Summers of The Police, but none felt quite the same. That changed when he found a ’64 SG, a guitar that would soon become legendary.
Just before Cream’s first U.S. tour, an art collective called The Fool transformed the SG with a psychedelic design. The bold, swirling colors made it instantly recognizable. From that moment on, it became known as The Fool Guitar, a symbol of Clapton’s late ’60s era.
Eventually, he gifted it to his close friend George Harrison, adding to its already storied history. Today, the famous SG resides with a private collector, who reportedly paid nearly more than a million dollars for the piece of rock history.
